Porcelain Veneers in Austin, TX
Patients in Austin with discolored, chipped, or worn down teeth can visit Park Dental for treatment using porcelain veneers. Dental veneers refer to ultra-thin, custom-made coverings of tooth-colored material that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth to improve their appearance and enhance your smile by changing their color, size, shape, or length.
Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
Dental veneers are routinely used to fix worn down, broken, chipped, crooked, or severely discolored teeth due to large resin fillings, root canal treatment, or staining from excessive fluoride, drugs, and other causes. They can also be used to fix gaps between your teeth.
These problems can also be fixed using crowns or caps. But unlike crowns that cover the entire tooth and require a significant amount of tooth enamel to be removed, dental veneers are placed over the front (visible) part of the tooth or teeth in a simple, comfortable procedure that only takes a couple of visits with Dr. Kennon Koenig.
What to Expect
If you’re a good candidate for dental veneers, they can be applied in only two visits. On your first visit, Dr. Koenig will prepare for veneer placement by finding the veneers that best match the color of your teeth, or the desired whiteness if you want to treat stained teeth. The dentist will also remove 0.3 to 0.5 mm of your tooth structure to allow enough room to place the veneers so they don’t appear larger than your other teeth. Afterwards, he will take an impression of your teeth and send it to the lab to create your custom veneers.
On your second visit, the prepared teeth will be cleaned and the veneers bonded directly using a special dental cement. The cement will be hardened using a curing light, making the treatment permanent. The veneer will then be polished to give them a natural look.
